Technological developments in information and communication systems, particularly the emergence of the Internet, have radically changed social movement concepts and created a new form of social movements, which is digital activism. While it is sometimes an extremely innocent way of demanding social change, sometimes it becomes a dangerous form of criminal action. That is the reason digital activism needs to be addressed and scrutinized, particularly by the states and governments. It is important to understand how the social, political and technological factors - the target, sphere, digital resources and regime type - impact digital activism's outcome. From this perspective, the target of digital activism, the sphere of digital activism, and the regime type have been found to be important variables in determining the success of digital activism. The combination of the target of digital activism, digital activism sphere and the regime type were able to explain 7.2% (R² = .072) of the variation in digital activism success. In other words, there is about 93% of variation in digital activism success left to be explained by factors other than the target of digital activism, digital activism sphere and the regime type.
