Alauddin Riayat Syah al-Kahar (of Aceh) (r. 1537?-71) was the son of Ali Mughayat, who had established Aceh's rule over the whole north coast of Sumatra, but it was al-Kahar who shaped its international stance as the eastern pole of the anti-Portuguese alliance. At the death of Ali Mughayat in 1530, his elder son, Salahuddin, was put on the throne.
