.13)C are important nuclei in detecting cancer tumors. Nuclear magnetic resonance is an important tool in detecting such nuclei. The goal of this thesis is designing, evaluating and simulating a tunable NMR sensor for detecting above nuclei. The NMR sensor includes a coil which tunes to the target nucleus by a connected capacitor. In this thesis, a tunable microcoil has been designed for a tunable NMR receiver. The microcoil is designed and optimized and then a proper microswitch is proposed. The designed microswitch uses electromagnetic actuation mechanism which has two benefits: 1) this mechanism doesn't need an extra circuitry because NMR system itself has a large magnetic field. 2) This mechanism leads to the lower contact resistance due to the large contact force. Making the NMR microoil reconfigurable using microswitches degrades the SNR of the microsoil. To overcome this effect, the width of the conductor of the microcoil increases by increasing number of turns, this work reduces the rate of the noise increase rate, so the SNR in variable-width microcoil increases more than constant-width microcoil versus number of turns. According to the simulation results, SNR of the reconfigurable variable-width microcoil (with switches) is higher than the SNR of common microcoil. The designed reconfigurable microcoil has many advantages such as: capability of increasing its volume, capability of turning into the array of microcoils and also capability of simultaneous detection
