جامعه‌ص‍ شناسی زبان به پدیده‌صهای بسیار متفاوتی می پردازد کریستیان بیلون که از متخصصان معاصر در این زمینه می باشد آنها را این گونه برمی شمارد :کارکردها و کاربردهای زبان در جامعه، تسلط بر زبان، تجزیه‌ص‍ و تحلیل کلام، قضاوتهای جوامع زبانی در مورد زبانشان ، برنامه ریزی و معیار سازی زبانی .وی می افزاید : جامعه شناسی زبان ابتدا به ساکن وظیفه‌صی توصیف گونه‌صهای مختلفی که در بطن یک جامعه‌صی زبانی وجود دارند را بر عهده دارد ضمن اینکه آنها را در ارتباط با ساختارهای اجتماعی قرار می دهد .امروزه جامعه شناسی زبان عملا تمام آنچه را که مربوط به مطالعه ی زبان در بافت اجتماعی-فرهنگی اش می باشد، در بر می گیرد .در این رساله پس از نگاهی گذرا به اصطلاح جامعه شناسی زبان و مفاهیم اساسی مربوط به آن، جایگاه نظریه‌صهای جامعه شناسی زبان را در ایران مشخص خواهیم کرد و خواهیم دید که آیا می توان از جامعه شناسی زبان در ایران به عنوان یک زمینه‌صی تحقیقاتی خاص با حوزه‌صهای متفاوتش نام برد .در پی این ارزیابی به شناسایی کارشناسان و پژوهشگران ایرانی در این زمینه پرداخته و کارهای علمی شان را با شیوه‌صهای رایج مقایسه خواهیم کرد .البته خاطر نشان می شود که بررسی اقدامات متفاوت صورت گرفته در این زمینه، با ارجاع به مقالات، پایان نامه ها و کتب منتشر شده در این حوزه از سال ‮‭۱۹۷۰‬ تا ‮‭۲۰۰۸‬ انجام خواهد گرفت .و در پایان ضمن اینکه جنبه‌صهای ناشناخته‌صی مطالعات جامعه شناسی زبان را در ایران نشان خواهیم داد پیشنهادها و محورهای پژوهشی جهت ارتقاء وضعیت این مطالعات در کشورمان ارائه خواهیم داد .بنابراین پروژه‌صی ما شامل پنج مرحله می شود :نگاه اجمالی بر تاریخچه ی جامعه شناسی زبان تحقیقات کتابخانه ای برای پی بردن به اینکه چه جنبه هایی از جامعه شناسی زبان) قرض گیری و تداخل های زبانی، ترکیب زبانها و کدگردانی، گوناگونی‌صهای زبانی و معیارسازی زبان، چند زبانگی، دو زبانگی، شبکه‌صهای اجتماعی و زبانها، (...مورد توجه پژوهشگران ایرانی قرار گرفته است طبقه بندی داده های مرحله ی دوم جهت نقد آنها نقد ارزیابی، نتیجه گیری و پیشنهادات.

The sociolinguistics is interested in phenomena highly varied; Christian Baylon, one of the contemporary specialists in this domain, so enumerates them: the functions(offices) and the manners of the language in the company(society), the language ability, the analysis of the speech, the judgments(sentences) which speech communities concern their linguistic language(tongue) s), the planning and the standardization. He adds that she(it) gave primitively for task to describe the various varieties which coexist within a speech community by putting them in touch with the social orders; today, she(it) contains practically all which is the study of the language in its sociocultural context.In this report, after a brief outline concerning the sociolinguistic term and its basic notions, we are going to specify the place (square) of these sociolinguistic theories in Iran, quite as a ground of specific search(research) which Iran can present in the diverse domains of this discipline. What will bring us to interest us to the experts and the Iranian researchers in this domain and to confront their scientific works with the current methods. Our search(research) will contain naturally the various attempts made in this domain, in reference to articles, to reports(memoirs) and to books appeared in this domain from 1970 until 2008. At the end of our memory(report), by indicating aspects unknown by sociolinguistic studies in Iran, we shall give some suggestions and some avenues of research to improve the state of its studies in our country.Thus we work consist of five stages: give some historic outlines onto the sociolinguistics; a search(research) for ground in libraries(bookcases) to know which aspects of the sociolinguistics (Loans and interferences, The rough languages(tongues), Mixtures of languages(tongues) and codiques alternations, The lingua franca, The linguistic conflicts and the diglossia, The linguistic variables and the standardization of the language(tongue), Multilingualism, Bilingualism, The social networks and the languages(tongues)) interesting the Iranian researchers; classification of the data of the second stage with the aim of a critical study; critical Study; appreciation, conclusion.
