SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
This paper is a media analysis of the critical satirical depiction of Saudi socio-cultural issues as represented in the following three Saudi short format YouTube videos: No Woman No Drive (2013), Screw Infidels (2015), and A Victim of Reputation (2013). This study precedes first with a description of each video, followed by an applicable definition of satire, its history, its types, and its role in addressing social and cultural issues, as well as the use of the online platform of YouTube as a borderless medium of communication. Lastly, an analysis of these three Saudi satirical short videos will utilize the framing theory and the semiotics theory to further explicate the underlying meanings of these media art works.
