ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAmr al-Murādī Ibn Muljam , a member of the Ḥimyar tribe who was also associated with the Yemeni Kinda tribe, murdered the caliph ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib in Kufa, in Ramaḍān 40/660. Little is known about Ibn Muljam before the conspiracy that resulted in ʿAlī's death. It appears that he participated in the initial conquest of Egypt and remained there for some time. Ibn Muljam was known for his piety and was counted among the qurrāʾ (Qurʾān reciters) (al-Ziriklī, 3:339). His devotion
