The thesis of this study is that Ezekiel 40-48 presents its temple as a type. The purpose of Ezekiel 40-48 is not to describe a temple to be physically constructed, either after the exile or in an eschatological future. Instead, clues within the text indicate typological features. The temple Ezekiel 40-48 describes points forward to a heightened fulfillment. In light of this, the study will also show how Ezekiel's temple vision plays an important role in the Old Testament (OT) theology of the temple. The vision advances a theology of the temple as God's means of dwelling with his covenant people beyond a physical structure. According to the Christian canon, this theology is fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ, and ultimately fulfilled in the eternal kingdom. The methodology of this study is to use typology to study the typological features within Ezekiel 40-48.
