Geographical proximity and historical events have led to the development of specific relations between Europe and Middle Eastern and North African Countries (MENA); the EU pays particular attention to MENA, and deploys a variety of tactics to ensure that the EU’s interests in the region are protected. To this end, the EU has begun a series of efforts in the realm of public diplomacy, which involves contacts. Recent developments in MENA have paved the way for such efforts. The EU created the European External Action Service (EEAS) in order to achieve a more cohesive and efficient public diplomacy. This paper will discuss about the EU’s activities in this field which can be categorized into three main groups: cultural programs (including social Media and cultural dialogue), financial initiatives (free trade, sustainable growth, and humanitarian aid) and political activities (Democratic transitions, partnerships for democracy and work toward shared prosperity and the promotion of civil society).
