Keramat is the name for the hundreds of pilgrimage sites scattered across the islands of Southeast Asia, which are sacred to many Muslims. The Malay-Indonesian term keramat (often spelled kramat ) comes from the Arabic karāma in the sense of "miraculous deed," especially one performed by a saintly person. In the languages of insular Southeast Asia, keramat can have varying meanings, depending on whether the term is used as an adjective or noun.
