ʿAbbās Efendī (1844-1921), better known especially among Bahāʾīs as ʿAbd al-Bahāʾ (Servant of Bahāʾ), was the tireless and gifted exponent of the religion founded by his father, Bahāʾ Allāh. After his father's death in 1892, ʿAbbās became the leader of the religion, in accordance with his father's written instructions, viz., "Centre of the Covenant" ( markaz-i mīthāq ).
