Abū Sahl ʿĪsā b. Yaḥyā l-Masīḥī al-Jurjānī (d. 401/1010) was a Christian physician noted for his eloquence in Arabic, who is reputed to have been the teacher of Ibn Sīnā (Avicenna, d. 428/1037). He, or his family, apparently came from Jurjān (Gurgān) on the southeastern coast of the Caspian Sea. He studied in Baghdad and lived and worked for at least part of his life in the Persian province of Khurāsān and then in the province of Khwārazm (south of the Aral Sea), where he was
